Microscopes Flashcards
1
Q
What are the different types of microscopes?
A
Electron and Light microscopes
2
Q
What are the differences and similarities between the microscopes?
A
Light microscopes use visible light whereas electron microscopes use electron beams
3
Q
What are the different parts of a microscope? (HINT : 9 parts)
A
eyepiece, revolving eyepiece, objective lens, stage, iris adjustment, Light source, course focus knob, fine focus knob, base.
4
Q
How do you calculate total magnification?
A
Rule: Eyepiece lens x objective lens e.g 10 x 10 = 100
4
Q
What are the rules for drawing a microscope diagram? (HINT : 7 steps)
A
- Use a sharp pencil
- no shading/colouring
- Diagram should only take up a third or less than half a page.
- Record magnification next to the diagram
- state the name of specimen and date of observation
- write written description
- 2-3 cells for observation
5
Q
What are the rules of using a microscope? (HINT : 6 steps)
A
- when carrying the microscope, place one hand underneath its base and the other around its body.
- place it on a flat surface
- adjust the light intensity
- start with the smallest objective lens (x4)
- remove the slide and ensure it is clean
- carefully put it back
