MICROSCOPE PARTS & FX Flashcards
Magnifies the image formed by the objective lens, usually 10x or 15x magnification.
Eyepiece (Ocular Lens)
Magnify the specimen at different levels, commonly 4x (scanning), 10x (low power), 40x (high power), and 100x (oil immersion).
Objective Lenses
Holds and rotates the objective lenses, allowing the user to switch between magnifications.
Nosepiece (Revolving Turret)
The flat platform where the slides with specimens are placed for viewing.
Stage
Secure the slide in place on the stage for stability.
Stage Clips
Allows precise movement of the slide using control knobs for X and Y axis movements.
Mechanical Stage
Moves the stage up and down for general focus, particularly at low magnifications.
Coarse Adjustment Knob
Provides fine-tuning for sharp focus, especially at higher magnifications.
Fine Adjustment Knob
Focuses light from the illuminator onto the specimen for better clarity and resolution.
Condenser
Regulates the amount of light reaching the specimen to control contrast and resolution.
Diaphragm (Iris Diaphragm)
The hole in the stage through which light is passed to illuminate the specimen. Its size affects how much light is allowed through.
Aperture
Provides illumination for viewing the specimen, usually a built-in light or a mirror to reflect external light.
Light Source (Illuminator)
Turns the light source on and off for illumination control.
Light Switch
Adjusts the intensity of the light source for optimal visibility depending on the specimen and magnification.
Brightness Adjustment Knob
Connects the base to the upper part of the microscope and is used for carrying the microscope.
