Eyepiece Lens
Small piece on the top that contains the lens that you look through.
Body Tube
connecting piece between the eyepiece and the objective lens.
Nosepiece
Contains the objective lenses and can be rotated.
Arm
supports the body tube. Along with the base is one of the two points you should be holding when carrying a microscope.
Objective Lenses
the objective lens of a microscope magnifies the image. Low, Medium and High Power.
Objective Lens: Low Power
Used first to bring object into view.
Objective Lens: Medium Power
Used only after getting object into view focus w power objective.
Objective Lens: High Power
Used only after object has been focused under medium objective lens.
Diaphragm
Rotates to control the amount of light that reaches the eyepiece.
Stage
The flat platform that holds the slides.
Stage clips
Clips on the stage that holds the microscope slides in place.
Coarse Focus Knob
Bigger knob
Controls the movement of the stage
Coarse comes before fine
We only will use this one in class
Fine Focus Knob
Used to sharply focus image AFTER coarse adjustment has been used.
Sharpens the image
Smaller knob
Base
Bottom of the microscope
One hand on arm and one hand on base
Slide
A rectangular piece of glass that holds the specimen you will be looking at
