Microscope Flashcards
Total Magnification
Is equal to the power of the ocular lens multiplied by the power of the objective
Resolution
The ability to discriminate two close objects as seperate
Field
The area you see through the microscope
Working Distance
Distance from the bottom of the objective to the surface of the slide
Parfocal
The slide is focused at higher magnifications once it has been focused at lower magnifications
Base
Provides a sturdy flat surface to support and steady the microscope
Substage Light
Sends a light upward through the microscope
Light Control Knob
Controls the intensity of the light passing through the specimen
Stage
Platform that the slide rests on
Mechanical Stage
Controls the movement of the slide
Condenser
Concentrates light on the specimen
Iris Diaphragm Lever
Provides Contrast
Coarse Adjustment Knob
Make large adjustment to the height of the stage to focus the specimen
Fine Adjustment knob
Used for precise focusing
Head
Provides support for the objective lens system and place of attachment for the eyepieces which house the ocular lenses
