microRNA and cancer Flashcards

1
Q

what is elF4E and what does it bind?

A

The 5’ cap protein. binds to elF4G which brings in the poly A tail. This is needed for recruitment of the 40s ribosome and initiation of translation.

Q

What can miRNA profiling be used for?

A
  1. identify tissue of origin,
  2. distinguish tumour subtypes
  3. study SNPs in miR genes, binding sites, processing pathways to predict cancer.
  4. Prolifiling exosomal miR in the blood=no invasive procedure.
  5. differentiate normal and tumour tissue.
