microRNA and cancer Flashcards
1
Q
what is elF4E and what does it bind?
A
The 5’ cap protein. binds to elF4G which brings in the poly A tail. This is needed for recruitment of the 40s ribosome and initiation of translation.
2
Q
Which proteins to miRNAs use to bind mRNAs?
A
GW182 proteins
3
Q
Which miRNA act as tumour supressors?
A
miR-15a,16-1,29a,b, and c, let-7. Target BCl2, cdk6, ras
4
Q
Which miRNAS act as oncogenes?
A
miR-17-92, 155 and 21. Target PTEN, BIM SHIP1 etc.
5
Q
What can miRNA profiling be used for?
A
- identify tissue of origin,
- distinguish tumour subtypes
- study SNPs in miR genes, binding sites, processing pathways to predict cancer.
- Prolifiling exosomal miR in the blood=no invasive procedure.
- differentiate normal and tumour tissue.
