Microorgansms Flashcards
SCIENCE PPT
What are microorganisms?
Micro-organisms are organisms that cannot be seen with a naked eye, only with a microscope.
What are the types of microorganisms?
There are 4 main types of micro-organisms- Bacteria, Protozoa, Fungi and Bacteria.
True or False- Bacteria is a multicellular organism
False- Bacteria is a unicellular organism
Name 5 characteristics of bacteria
- Bacteria is everywhere.
- Bacteria are single celled
- They make their own food using sunlight.
- Some attack on living things
- Used to make antibiotics.
Name 5 characteristics of Fungi
- They are uni or multi cellular
- They are plant like but they don’t photosynthesise and chloroplast (pigment) is not there
- They get food from plant and animal waste.
- Not in plant kingdom
- Has cell walls but no chlorophyll
What is Hyphae?
Hyphae is a branching like structure of fungus. They grow and eat inside the cell of the host, and get nutrients.
True or False- Spores are reproductive cells/unit.
True
Is yeast a fungus or not?
Yeast in the only unicellular fungus.
Yeast is used in making…
Pastries, cakes, bread…
What are 5 characteristics of Algae
- They are uni or multi cellular organisms.
- They grow on moist soil or rocks.
- They have cell wall and chloroplast.
- They photosynthesise
- They are like plants.
Where is protozoa found?
Protozoa is found in water (salt)
Are protozoa’s uni or multi cellular
Protozoa are unicellular organisms.
True or False- Are protozoa’s parasites or not.
Protozoa’s are parasites.
