What are the fat soluble vitamins?
Vitamins A, D, E and K

• Stored in liver
• Do not need to be eaten regularly
• Can be stored in body for months/years
What are the water soluble vitamins?
Vitamins B group and C

• Cannot be stored in body
• Need to eat regularly
• Can be easily destroyed
How can you protect water soluble vitamins?
• Eat fresh
• Buy fruit and vegetables in a good condition
• Ripen at home
• Store in a cool, dark place
• Leave skins on where possible
• If boiling, use water in a sauce e.g. gravy
• Use cooking methods like steaming, stir-frying, roasting
What are the antioxidant vitamins?
A, C and E ( ‘ACE’ )

• Protect against free-radicals
• Free-radicals can damage healthy body cells
• Thought to cause heart disease and certain types of cancer
