Microneedling Flashcards
What is micro needling ?
Micronedling is an invasive procedure which pricks/wounds the skin to create new skin cells , collagen and elastin to repair the damage
What does microneedling treat ?
It treats
-stretch marks
Celuliate
Acne scars
Fine lines and wrinkles
Surgical scars
Hyperpigmentation
What can be used as a microneedling tool
Dermapen
Dermastamp
Dermaroller
How does microneedling work
It works because it wounds the skin resulting in the new growth of new skin cells which includes collagen and elastin
What are the three phases of microneedling healing
Phase 1 (days 1–3) Inflammation: Activated by piercing the dermal tissue, which releases growth factors and signal to the body’s immune system increases blood supply and begins the process of new skin
Phase 2 (days 3–5) Proliferation: epidermal cells continue to divide to populate the areas of damage elastin and collagen, will be laid down and deposited with new tissue formation.
Phase 3 (days 6–30) Remodeling: The collagen in the newly formed tissue is now replaced with even stronger collagen and the dermis contracts to create a youthful firm, but supple texture to the skin.
What are the most effective uses of microneedling
-ageing skin
Acne scars/hyperpigmentation
- stretch marks -microneedling improved density of eperdims
Rosace- commonly seen in 30+ , microneedling helps control this by stimulating epidermal growth
- hair loss - stimulates blood flow to scalp
Other names for microneedling
collagen induction therapy (CIT),
percutaneous collagen induction (PCI),
What are the steps to carry out microneedling
- Cleanse clients face to ensure dirt +makeup is gone
2.numbing cream 45mins before procedure - After procedure treate skin with saline solution
- Apply serum containing vitamin A,C,E
What are the type of needle lengths and what are they used for
Firstly the needle length should be selected based on the depth of the scars
-1.5-2mm normall used for acne and other scars
- 0.5-1.0 treate ageing and wrinkles
What is the recovery time like for microneedling
- not more than 7 days
Most clients around 3-4 days
What is the skin like after the procedure
Immediately after treatment there is redness like a mild sunburn
Day 1 puffy face /slight bruising is normal
Day 3-5 skin may be dry and tight
- day 4-6 there is minimal swelling skin flaking potentially
Day 7 little visible signs of procedure
What are the differences between microneedling vs lasers and chemical peels
Laser and dermbrasion have longer down times where as microneedling does not
Microneecan be used on areas that chemical peels or laser cannot such as around the eyes witch laser does not do
Which serums can be used with microneedling
Vitamin A , C
- Hyaluronic acid hydrating ingredient which replenishes skin,
-PEPTIDES
Peptides help the skin remain intact by keeping the skin firm,
Ceramides make up 50% of the uppermost layer of your skin and are the fatty
acids which help keep the skin barrier intact
Briefly summarise the history of microneedling
The earliest form of microneedling, acupuncture, traces its roots to the Chinese
What are the types of microneedling devices
Dermarollers resemble small manual paint rollers with a round, rotating cylinder that has up to 200 tiny needles protruding from it and a handle for moving around it your face. These are sold for at-home use.
Dermapens look like a pen, with a circular head studded with tiny needles. The motor- driven needles move in and out of the skin, piercing it with thousands of tiny punctures. The concentration of the needles in a tiny point is helpful for small, dented acne scars
Dermastamps resemble Dermapens but have a larger head with more needles protruding from it for use on larger areas and are stamped into the skim
