Ocular Lens
the lens through which you look to examine the slide

oil immersion lens
a lens that requires a drop of oil to be placed on the examined slide, without which the image will not focus

the surface on which the slide sits
mechanical stage adjustment knob
the knob used to adjust the position of the stage
arm
the part of a microscope that supports the body of the microscope and houses the adjustment knobs
coarse adjustment knob
the large knob on the side of the arm that moves the stage up and down and allows gross focusing of the image
fine adjustment knob
the smaller knob underneath the coarse adjustment knob; allows fine-tuning of the focus of the image
lamp
also called the illuminator, provides the light source and sits on the base of the microscope
iris diaphragm
sits on the underside of the stage and adjusts how much light is allowed through the slide
