13
Q

Identification and detection of virus

A
  • Cannot be grown (unlike most pathogenic bacteria) •
  • Detected using PCR - polymerase chain reaction: Need a probe for the sequence of interest, if detected can then be amplified and detected.
  • Serological testing (early- IgM / late- igG)
  • ELISA

A
17
Q

Plasmodium is a pathogen that causes

A

Malaria

  • it has gliding motility and is a protozoa
18
Q

Diagnosing malaria

A

Blood film showing RBC infected by malaria parasites

19
Q

country of most global malaria burden

A

Sub-saharan Africa

  • Increased prevention and control measures have led to a 29% reduction in malaria mortality rates globally since 2010.
20
Q

Aspergillosis is caused by a

A

Fungi

  • Resp infection infecting immunocompromised people
  • Hyphae may impede lung function and growth into tissues can cause damage and severe pneumonia.
  • Reproduce by forming spores which can cause infections and grows as filaments of hyphae
