Pseudomonas Aeruginosa
-Grapelike odor and greenish blue color.
-Gram (-), Rod, opportunistic
-Habitat: Soil and water.
-intestinal resident of 10% of people.
-Resistant to soaps, drugs, dyes, Quat ammonium disinfectants, drugs, and drying
- frequent contaminants of ventilators, IV solutions, Anesthesia equipment.
-Common cause of nosocomial infections with hosts with burns, neoplastic disease, cystic fibrosis.
-Complications: UTI, Pneumonia, abscesses, otitis, corneal disease.
-Endocarditis, meningitis, Bronchopneumonia.
-Multi-drug resistant
Burkholderia Cepecia
-Found in places that should be sterile. (Mouthwash & Nasal spray)
-Gram (-), Rod, opportunistic
-Habitat: soil, water, and related environments
-Found in respiratory tract, unitary tract, and occasional skin infections.
-Nosocomial
-Obligate aerobes, do not ferment sugars
-Motile, Oxidase positive
-Active biodegradation of variety of substances.
-transmission: Person to person contact, fomites, exposure (water & soil)
