Microbes Flashcards
Prokaryotic
A prokaryote is a single-cell organism whose cell lacks a nucleus and other membrane-bound organelles
Eukaryotic
organisms whose cells have a membrane-bound nucleus
Capsid
It is the protein layer which surrounds the genetic material of a cell
Host specific
It means that viruses have a particular range of species that they can infect
Bacteriophage
It is a virus that can affect bacteria and replicates inside it
Antibiotic
These are chemicals that either directly kill bacteria or stop the multiplication of bacteria and thus allow the body’s natural defences to destroy the remaining bacteria
Algar plate
It is the petri dish that contains a growth medium used to culture microorganisms (nutrient agar)
