Micro and Macro evolution Flashcards
1
Q
Define microevolution
A
micro effects populations/species. It is a process that happens over multiple generations, and the effects of micro typically lead to macroevolution eventually. micro evolution doesnt make distinct species. It occurs due to 4 main factors:
Gene flow
Genetic drift
Mutation
Selection presssures.
2
Q
Define macroevolution
A
Macro is the accumulation of microevolutionary changes. produces new species, (speciation) as opposed to small changes within species. Ususally involves the study of fossils.
