amphetamine-based stimulant (Adderall, Dexedrine, Vyvanse)
what is the MOA for amphetamine-based stimulants
CNS sympathetic neuron stimulant (release NE and dopamine, prevent reuptake)
what are contraindications for amphetamine-based stimulants
MAOI (up to 14 days past d/c), glaucoma, untreated hyperthyroidism, Htn, pheochromocytoms, symptomatic CV disease, psychosis
what is the black box warning for amphetamine based stimulants
high potential for abuse, dependence, and withdrawal
what is a first line treatment for ADHD & narcolepsy?
methylphenidate based stimulants (concerta/metadat, Ritalin, Focalin)
what is the starting dose and titrating schedule for adderal (amphetamine) in children 6-12
start at 5mg daily in the am, increase by 5-10mg to max of 30mg
what is the starting dose and titrating schedule for ritalin (methyphenidate) in children 6-12
5mg BID/TID, increase by 5mg to max of 60mg
