What is the Seven Year’s War and who won?
A war fought between Great Britain and France over control of North America. Most European countries were also involved in the war as allies. Great Britain won the war.

He led his followers back to East Texas without government permission and founded the town of Nacogdoches.
What is the American Revolution?
It was the event when thirteen of Britain’s North American colonies joined together to rebel against British rule.
How did Bernardo de Galvez help the American Revolution?
Bernardo helped by opening New Orleans’ port to American ship, donating generous amounts of money and supplies, and leading an army to help fight British troops.
What is the Louisiana Purchase and what is its impact?
The United States bought Louisiana from France for about $15 million, this event is known as the Louisiana Purchase. It impacted the United States by doubling its size and moving the border to be shared with Texas.
Where does the United States believe the border between Texas and Louisiana is located and where does Spain think it is?
The United States believes the border is the Sabine River and Spain thinks it is along a line from the Arroyo Honda.
What is the Neutral Ground?
The Neutral Ground is the solution General James Wilkinson came up with for the boundary issues. Neither Spain nor the U.S. controls this area.
What problems did the Neutral Ground cause?
Because neither country governed the Neutral Ground between 1806 and 1819, fugitives, outlaws, and smugglers from both territories came here because they were safe from legal authority.
What are terms are apart of the Adams-Onis Treaty?
Spain gave its colony of Florida to the U.S. and agreed to the Sabine River as the eastern boundary of Texas. In return, the U.S. surrendered all claims to Texas. The Neutral Ground is now in U.S. territory.
Who is Philip Nolan?
Philip Nolan was a filibuster who claimed to be working in Texas, capturing and selling wild horses.
How did Philip Nolan die?
Spanish authorities though he was a soy working for General James Wilkins and warned him to stay out of Texas, but he didn’t obey. In March 1801, Nolan and his men refused to surrender to soldiers and a fight broke out. Philip died in the battle.
What were the three main reasons colonists wanted independence from Spain?
- Distance- Spain was too far away to help citizens in New Spain.
- Taxes- Spanish King forced colonists to pay heavy taxes and he took money from their churches.
- Poverty- Colonists were excluded from the best job, and most citizens were in poverty because of the class system.
What is Father Hidalgo known as?
Father of Mexican Independence
What is Grito de Dolores?
On September 16, 1810, Father Miguel Hidalgo called for Mexican citizens to fight for independence from Spain. This speech is called his “Grito de Dolores” which means a “cry of pain.”
