Jose Gutierrez de Lara
West Point graduate who joined Gutierrez de Lara’s Texas Expedition.
Becomes a military commander in the Gutierrez- Magee expedition and captures Goliad and San Antonio.
Augustus Magee
a military expedition force consisting of Tejanos, Native Americans, and anglo-American filibusters led by Magee and Gutierrez that marches into Texas to fight for Mexican Independence. Call themselve the Republican Army of the North.
The Gutierrez-Magee Expedition
In 1813, Republican forces battle the Spanish Army south of San Antonio near the Medina River.
Result:
Complete victory by the Spanish Army
Most of the members of the Republican Army are killed
Those who surrender are executed

Makes Mexico independent for Spain
Ends the Period of Spanish Colonial rule over Texas
Treaty of Cordoba 1821
The Mexican Federal Constitution of 1824 is created
Divides Mexico into 19 states and 4 territories
Texas is merged with Coahuila, which created a brand new state: Texas y Coahuila
Impact of the Mexican Revolution
Military leader during the French Revolution who would become the leader of France from 1800s to 1815.
Napoleon would start a series of wars in Europe that would last until 1815.
Spain’s fear of Napoleon would have huge consequences for North America.
He forced Spain to sign the treaty of San Ildefonso in 1800 which returned Louisiana to France!
Napoleon Bonaparte
Spain gave its colony of Florida to the United States and agreed to the Sabine River as the eastern boundary of Texas.
Effect:
The United States surrendered all claims to Texas.
Adams-Onis Treaty
A military expedition led by private individuals who lead unauthorized warfare against another country WITHOUT permission from his/her government!
Most of the filibusters were from the US!
They were angry that the US gave up ownership of Texas through the Adams-Onis Treaty!
Filibuster
Mexico would be divided into 19 states and 4 territories.
Two former Spanish provinces, Coahuila and Texas, were united as the Mexican state of Coahuila y Tejas.
If Texas increased its population enough, it could become a separate state. The constitution allowed Texas one representative in a 12-member state legislature. Baron de Bastrop would represent Texas.
The new government believed in sharing powers between the national government and the states.
