The Battle of Medina (“The BLOODIEST Battle in Texas History”)

A

August 1813, the Republican Army battled Spanish forces south of San Antonio at the Medina River. Commanded by General Arredondo, the Spanish overwhelmed the Republican Army. They were all killed during the battle or executed after it.

The Long
Expedition
(THE LAST FILIBUSTER IN TEXAS)

A

The group declared Texas independent and elected Dr. James Long as its president. After a string of battles, Long and his men were surrounded by the Spanish Army. Long was taken to a Mexican prison where he was shot and killed by a guard 6 months later.
