Rubi’s Report
Marques de Rubi was sent to Texas to inspect the missions after the 7 Years War. He recommended to the king that Texas missions should be abandoned and all east Texas settlers should move to San Antonio.
What is an Empresario
Empresarios are land agents that helped recruit and bring in settlers to an area. In Texas, they worked with the Spanish and later Mexican governments.
The Granfather of Texas
Moses Austin came up with an idea to bring Anglo American families to settle in Texas. He got permission, but he died before he could get families to Texas.
The Father of Texas
Stephen F. Austin became the first empresario in Texas, when he took over for his father.
The Old Three Hundred
Stephen F. Austin continued his fathers work by settling 300 families from the United States. They are known as the “Old Three Hundred”.
Plan de Iguala
In 1820- Agustin de Iturbide issued a plan to establish a Mexican empire he would declare Mexico independent from Spain,
Mexican people would have equal rights, and
Catholicism would be the official religion of Mexico.
The Constitution of 1824
The Mexican constitution of 1824 set the basic rules and principles of Mexico and created the state of Coahuila y Texas

In 1803, the US purchased the Lousiana territory from France

Adams-Onis Treaty
In 1819, the U.S. and Spain signed the Adams-Onis Treaty, ending the Neutral Ground Agreement.
Treaty of Cordoba
August 21, 1821- The Treaty of Cordoba was signed, declaring Mexico independent from Spain. This meant that SPain is no longer in control of Mexico and that Texas is part of free Mexico
Colonization Law of 1825
-Invited colonists to move to Texas (even without empresario) by giving them up to 4,428 acres for just $30.
