What is one of the most common dopamine antagonist?

A

Metoclopramide

  • increases lower esophageal sphincter tone
  • decreases pyloric sphincter tone
  • increases gastric contraction
  • good at controlling vomiting
  • pro kinetic activity linked only to the liquid phase and not solid phase of gastric emptying
  • can be given up to 3X a day injection or as a CRI
  • atropine and opioids may negate action
  • avoid in animals with GI FB
  • sometimes mentation, behavior (excitement and disorientation)and constipation
