What is metoclopramide an example of?
Antiemetic

prophylaxis and treatment of nausea and vomiting - in the context of reduced gut motility

Diarrhoea - common
Extrapyramidal syndromes (movement abnormalities) - acute dystonic reaction (such as oculogyric crisis - upward deviation of eyes) - to reduce this effect, metoclopramide should be prescribed for no more than 5 days

neonates
intestinal perforation
Avoid in parkinson’s

metoclopramide - interactions
1) Antipsychotics (increases risk of extrapyrimidal side effects)
2) Dopaminergic agents for parkinsons disease
reduces thier effect.
What is meant by extrapyramidal effects?
Symptoms of extrapyramidal effects include an inability to sit still, involuntary muscle contraction, tremors, stiff muscles, and involuntary facial movements.
