Methods To Decrease Demineralizing Factors Flashcards
What’s is this methods/factors ?
- Dietary measures
- Methods to improve oral hygiene
- Chemical measures
What’s Dietary Measures ?
Diet modification, has been considered one of the main step in influencing the dental caries
What’s Sugar substitutes ?
- Xylitol
- Sorbitol
What’s xylitol effect ?
Xylitol is non-fermen-table, noncariogenic sugar and has anticaries effects. Anticariogenic effects of xylitol:
• Xylitol reduces plaque formation
• It reduces bacterial adherence
• It inhibits enamel demineralization
• It has a direct inhibitory effect on S. mutans
• Increases salivary flow
• It is nonfermentable
• It increases concentration of amino acids which
neutralize the plaque acidity.
How to use Xylitol chewing gums or lozenges ?
used four times
are effective anticaries therapeutic measures.
How does fat and cheese used in Carie’s ?
- Fats: Fats used to form a protective barrier on enamel or on carbohydrate surface so that it is less available for bacteria.
- Cheese:
• Increasing the salivary flow
• Increasing the pH
• Promoting the clearance of sugar.
All these factors help in reducing the incidence of caries.
Why fibrous diets important ?
Don’t stick on teeth
What’s is Low caloric sweeteners ?
several sweetener such
as aspartame, saccharin and cyclamate considered to
have some role as fibrous food.
What’s the methods of oral hygiene improvement?
• Dental prophylaxis
• Toothbrushing
• Interdental cleaning.
What’s dental prophylaxis ?
In dental prophylaxis, polishing of roughened tooth surfaces and replacement of faulty restorations is done so as to decrease the formation of dental plaque,
therefore, resulting in less incidence of caries.
In chemical measures what’s the Substances interfering with carbohydrate degradation through enzymatic alterations ?
- Vitamin K, synthetically made, has been found to prevent acid formation, when added in incubated mixtures of glucose and saliva.
- Sarcocide: It has also been found to have some role in caries prevention.
What’s the Substances interfering with bacterial growth and metabolism ?
a. Chlorhexidine: has highly positive charge, which is responsible for reducing the number of Streptococcus mutans .
b. Urea and ammonium compounds: Urea is usually degraded by urea which releases ammonia, neutralizes the acids and also interferes with bacterial growth.
c. Glutaraldehyde: It has been shown that a two minutes daily application of glutaraldehyde reduces mineral loss in dentin caries.
How is indicated to use fluoride ?
•• patients over 8 years with high caries activity
•• patients with orthodontic appliances, which inevitably encourage plaque accumulation and predispose to carious lesions
•• patients with a dry mouth (xerostomia)
•• patients with developing root caries.
