Different methods that firms use to inform customers about their products and to persuade consumers to buy them.
What are some examples of promotional methods?

What does advertising involve?
A business paying to have their product or service promoted in a public space. It aims to make customers aware of a product and to get them to buy a product or service
Why is the platform that the business chooses to advertise on important?
Makes sure that they reach the right target market and have the maximum impact.
- For example, social media or a Tv programme may be a better way to reach young people than a broadsheet newspaper like The Times.
What is the aim of public relations?
To make sure information about the company is as positive possible and reaches the largest possible audience.
What is an example of PR?
The use of newspaper editorials, where people in a firm manage the business’ relationships with different newspaper, sending them articles to publish about the firm.
What are some examples of sales promotion? (trying to boost sales using a temporary promotion)
- Samples
- Competitions
- Value for money offers (e.g buy one get one free)
- Free gifts
- Point of sales displays
- Discount coupons
What does sponsorship involve?
Paying athletes, celebrities or other organisations for them to advertise for a business.
What is product placement?
When products are clearly featured in commercial TV programmes or films.
