What are the 3 types of production?
Batch, Flow and Job Production.
What is Batch Production?
Making a set quantity of identical products.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of Batch Production?
Advantages: Variety of sizes or flavours, can be partially automated and can produce more products than Job Production.
Disadvantages: Not as flexible as Job Production and costs might be higher than Flow Production.
What is Flow Production?
Continuously making identical products.
What are the disadvantages and advantages of Flow Production?
Advantages: Make larger quantities, products are identical (customer trust) and it’s a highly automated process.
Disadvantages: Profit margins can be smaller, not tailored to customers, expensive for machinery.
What is Job Production?
Individual products are made one at a time.
What are the disadvantages and advantages of Job Production?
Advantages: High profit margins, employees might be more motivated/enjoy more, customers get exactly what they want.
Disadvantages: Highly trained/skilled staff are required (increased costs) and training (if necessary) can be expensive.
