What are the 3 methods of Surveying Land?
- Government system or Rectangular System
- Lot and Block
- Metes and Bounds
Rectangular System describes what?
Used to standardize land boundaries using Principle meridians and Base lines.
What is a Survey?
Process of calculating dimensions and area to find exact location of land parcel
Principle Meridian?
Lines that run North to South and is referenced by a name or number and crossed by a base line
Base Lines?
Lines that run East to West
How are Principle Meridian and Base Lines located?
Using degrees of longitude and latitude
Tiers?
Used in Rectangular system described by numbers, parallel, and north or south of base line. Each is 6 miles apart to describe township lines.
What are Ranges?
Run parallel North to South of Principle Meridian and divided 6 miles apart
How are townships formed?
When Horizontal town lines (E to W) and Ranges (N to S) lines intersect, it forms squares or townships, which are the basic units of rectangular system.
What are the 3 legal descriptions of a township?
- Indication of tier by its locations
- Indication of range
- name or number of Meridian for that area
What are Sections?
Townships divided in sections and subsections called halves and quarters
How many sections are in a Township and which section is subject to school purposes?
36 sections, which section 16 used for school
How long is one section in a township?
1 square mile or 640 acres or 43,560 square feet in each acre.
Where does a section start?
At section one, the Most Northeastern or upper right hand corner. Counting right to left, then down, then from left to right.
What does the comma and semicolon replace in Government Survey?
Comma replaces the word, “of,” and Semicolon means, “and”
