Diplomacy and negotiation
When two nations have a common problem, they negotiate to try to find a solution
Treaties and alliances
Formalizing agreements between nations by signing treaties with one another
Collective security
Nations banding together to keep world peace by agreeing to take united action against any nation which threatens war
International law
a body of rules established by custom or treaty and recognized by nations as binding in their relations with one another.
Mediation
Nations with difficult problems letting an outside party join in on their discussion
Tariffs and quotas
Adding taxes to the price of goods
Boycotts, embargoes, sanctions
A government that is not happy with the actions of another may refuse to trade with it
Economic warfare
When one country attacks the economic well being of another, it can lead to warfare
Loans and credits
When a country cannot buy goods it needs another country may help by granting loans
Foreign aid
Provides help to countries with very little cash income from wealthier countries
Propaganda
A one sided biased form of communication
Clandestine actions
Spying, encouragement of strikes or riots
Military intervention
The deliberate act of a nation or a group of nations to introduce its military forces into the course of an existing controversy
War and threat of war
Nation seeks war as the only method to satisfactorily resolve a dispute
Cultural relations
Cultural exchanges including language, race, ethnic origin, values, customs, etc.
