what is a meta-analysis

A

involves secondary data gained from a number of studies which have already been conducted on the same topic

When there is conflicting evidence from numerous studies on a particular topic, psychologists may conduct a meta-analysis, or an analysis of exsting analyses

Analysed 27 studies

Study samples = children, adolescents and young people

All used randomised control trials = pps similar characteristics, randomly assigned to either treatment group or control group (waiting list, placebo or no-treatment).

They excluded studies with less than 10 pps and studies which weren’t available in English

A

Large data sets due to multiple studies being used meansnthe conclusions should be more generalisable, especially if studies have been conducted in different countries

Less time consuming than conducting research to gather primary data
