What is the difference between a method and a strategy?
A strategy is a broad objective whereas a tactic is how one intends to execute their strategy.
What are the two main classifications of tactic?
Insider and Outsider
What is an Insider Tactic?
An attempt to exert influence within the political system.
What are some examples of insider tactics?

- Lobbying
- Litigation (use of the courts)

An attempt to exert influence without engaging directly with the political system.

- Demonstrations

What is direct action?
A term used to refer to any for of political protest which exceeds traditional methods - usually including a degree of violence or illegality.
Why might a pressure group use direct action?
To catch the attention of the public after traditional methods have failed.
What are two examples of pressure groups who have infamously used direct action?
- UK Uncut in 2011
- Plane Stupid since 2007
What is Uk Uncut’s cause?
Stopping the coalition government’s cuts and bail out of the banks.
What is Plane Stupid’s cause?
Stopping domestic flights.
Why has direct action become more popular in recent years?
The government have become desensitised to traditional methods so pressure groups have to resort to more extreme methods to get their voices heard.
