Researcher present, no interview schedule, can ask follow-up questions, preferred by interpretivists
STRENGTHS - high in validity, useful for sensitive topics, useful to uncover meaning and motivation
LIMITATIONS - time consuming, can go off topic, interviewer effect, small-scale research method
Official Statistics
Collected by gov, collated from responses to questionnaires and surveys, repeated at regular intervals
STRENGTHS - reliability - collected by gov sources and repeated regularly, quantitative date, use in developing social policies, positivists
LIMITATIONS - defining concepts problematic, can be manipulated
