Meters Flashcards
What are the 5 areas of atmospheric measurements of the multirae
- Combustibility
- O2
- CO
- H2S HYDROGEN SULFIDE
- VOC
Can other sensors other than the previous 5 sensors be used in the multirae?
Yes, Multiple different sensors can be used. Only one is high energy (PID for VOC’s, 10.6 IP)
What is another word for calibration on the multirae
Span
Multirae LEL alarms at?
10% and 10%
Multirae O2 sensor alarms at?
19.5% low
23.5% high
Multirae CO alarms at?
35ppm and 100 ppm
Multirae H2S alarms at?
10ppm and 15 PPM
Multirae VOC’s alarm at?
50-100ppm
20% by volume = how many PPM
200,000 PPM
What type of battery does the multirae use?
Rechargeable lithium ion battery. Meter should be kept on charger when not in use.
When air monitoring around electrical hazards, what type of sampling wand is used?
Non-conductive wand
Multirae: What contaminates may give you false readings, damage sensors, or damage meter
Organic silicones, silicates, lead containing compounds
What are VOC’s and what is the highest IP that the meter can detect?
Volatile organic compounds. Chemicals such as fuels, coatings, solvents and refrigerants. Evaporate easily = volatile. High flash points.
10.6 IP
How does the Multirae read VOC’s
3 different PID sensors.
PPM .1-5,000
PPM 1-1,000
10PPB-2,000 PPM
What three things do you do prior to metering a hazardous area?
- Block pump
- Bump test
- Confirm measurement gas/conversion factor
What are conversion factors?
Values that must be multiplied by the reading in LEL and VOC to get the true reading. Built into the multirae if you change measurement gas.
What is the wand and how does it effect your readings?
Used to assist with metering high and low. Takes one second per foot for gas to reach the meter. Filter on the inlet of the meter itself
What do we have to know when using toxirae?
What gas we ate dealing with. It’s gas specific.
What are the three toxirae sensors?
Ammonia, chlorine and cyanide
What powers the toxirae?
Rechargeable lithium ion battery. Should be kept on charger.
What does it mean if the toxirae loses power? What do you do?
Battery is dead. Recharge asap
The toxirae is a passive meter. What does that mean?
No pump. No hose can be attached.
Toxirae MAX code means?
Gas exceeds electronics max range
Toxirae OVER code?
Gas exceeds measurement range
Toxirae HIGH code?
gas exceeds high alarm limit
Toxirae LOW code?
Gas exceeds low alarm limit
Toxirae STEL code
Gas exceeds short term exposure limit
Toxirae TWA code
Gas exceeds time weighted average limit
Toxirae CAL code?
Calibration failed, or needs calibration
How can you find the measurement ranges for each sensor for the toxirae?
Meter will tell you the ranges for each sensor during warm up cycle.
Toxirae smart cell
5 key points.
- Cells last about 2 years
- Exposure to high heat and moisture can be harmful
- Exposure to high concentrations can damage cells
- Always keep cells in sensor keeper, or in meter and on the charger.
- Saturated cells can take hours to clear
How do you change sensors in the toxirae?
Turn off to change is the preferred method. Unscrew and replace sensor.
Gas ranger batter installation.
Side of unit. Opposite orientation from every toy.
Gas ranger. What is the correct orientation of the wand, water trap and dust filter, tubing and meter?
Wand, dust filter, water trap, tubing, meter
How do you switch from %LEL to %gas gas ranger?
Using the dial. 10% LEL is equal to .5% gas
20% LEL is equal to 1% gas. %gas is used once 100% LEL is reached to get an accurate reading
Gas ranger. How do you clear a “no go” during an auto zero?
Press and hold the reset button
What mode would you use to pin point the source of a gas leak with the gas ranger?
Sniff/track gas. Read out in PPM
Gas ranger
5% gas by volume= how many PPM?
50,000 PPM
Gas ranger alarms at what %LEL and what %gas
10% LEL
0.5% gas
What will display on the gas ranger if battery is low?
Flashes “LO”
Gas ranger meters for?
Methane, CO and O2
Gas ranger displays “LO”
Batteries low or installed incorrectly (install flat end first)
Gas ranger displays “bloc”
Intake of instrument is blocked. Drain wand, clean/change filter, drain or replace water trap
Gas ranger does not display “bloc” when probe is manually blocked?
Indicates leak between probe tip and pump or pump is dirty. Disconnect probe and tube and block intake. If block still does not appear meter needs repair.
Gas ranger displays “nogo” on auto zero
Gas or CO is present. Repeat in clean air after detector purge.
Or
The zero of sensor has drifted. Coarse zero in clean air (hold down RESET and switch out of and back into AUTO ZERO)
Gas ranger display shows “FAIL”
A sensor (methane or oxygen) has failed. Replace sensor(s)
Gas ranger cross sensitivities?
CO2
Function of the eberline?
Detects Gamma, neutron (xray), alpha and beta (pancake)
Where is the internal probe on the eberline?
Front of the hand held meter. Front is indicated by a small triangle.
Eberline external prob connector
Also called the pancake. Reads alpha and beta (flip over)
Eberline scintillator
The blue sausage. Expands the range of the meter in a cone shape. 90ft 70°
Eberline function keys
On/off, back light, function key, volume
What is the function of the green light on the Eberline?
Flashing or solid green indicates normal levels
Radiation contamination is considered?
5x backround
Hot zone established with radiation at?
