Meteorology Flashcards
Air Mass
HUGE body of air that has simila temperature, humidity, and air pressure.
Air Pressure
The weight of air pushing down on a area.
Anemometer
A tool used to measure wind speed.
Atmosphere
The gases that surrounds and protects Earth. There are 4 major layers.
Barometer
A tool used to measure changes in air pressure.
Climate
year after year conditions of Earth, due to the position on the globe.
Front
A boundary where unlike air masses meet but don’t mix.
High Pressure
When COLD air pressure is greater than its surroundings (it sinks); sunny, dry, and clear weather.
Low Pressure
When the HOT air pressure is less than its surroundings (it rises); stormy weather.
Meteorologist
Scientists who study the causes of weather and try to predict it.
Precipitation
Any form of water that falls from clouds.
Psychrometer
A tool used to measure humidity.
Rain Gauge
A tool used to measure precipitation.
Temperature
How hot or cold an object is compared to a reference point.
Thermometer
A tool used to measure temperature.
