Metals And Non Metals Flashcards
What bonding do all metals have?
Metallic bonding
List the properties of metals
Very strong bonds
Malleable
High boiling and melting point
Good conducts of energy and heat
List the proporties of group 1 alkaline metals
Low boiling point
Soft
Low density
More reactive
How do the reactivity of the group 1 alkaline change as you down the group?
It increases
How does the melting points and boiling points change as you go down the group?
They decrease
Why are Group 1 alkaline metals so reactive?
This is because they easily lose only one electron on its outermost shell
Why does the reactivity increase as you go down the group?
This is because the forces of attraction between the positive nucleus and electron are further away the more you go down the group meaning it easily loses its electron
What do you get when you react an alkali metal with water
Alkali metals + Water —> Metal Hydroxide + Hydrogen Gas
Describe the properties of the group 7 halogen fluorine
Poisonous yellow gas which is very reactive
Describe the properties of chlorine
Green poisonous gas
Describe the properties of Bromine
Brown poisonous liquid
Describe the properties of Iodine
Dark grey poisonous solid
What happens the BP and MP and reactivity of the group 7 halogens as you go down the group?
MP BP increase
Reactivity decreases
