Metals Flashcards
What are Ferrous metals
All Ferrous metals contain iron ferrite and have high tensioe strength and durability
What are Cast Irons properties and uses
Properties-Hard but Brittle. Resists deformation and rust
Uses-Kitchen pans, machine bases, manhole covers
What is High Carbon Steels properties and uses
Properties-Hard, but brittle. Hard wearing, resists abrasion and retains its shape
Uses-Tools, blades, scissors
What are Low Carbon/Mild steels properties and uses
Properties-Tough and ductile. Rusts easily if not protected
Uses-Car bodies, steel building frames, pipelines
What is Zincs properties and uses
Properties-Brittle, yet malleable. High corrosion resistance
What are Coppers properties and uses
Properties-Ductile and malleable. Good electrical conductor
Uses-Plumbing supplies, electrical cables
What are Tins properties and uses
Properties-Malleable and ductile, high corrosion resistance. Good electrical conductor
Uses-Solder, plating surfaces such as cans
What is the composition of High speed steel
Its composition may include Chromium Molybdenum, Tungsten Vanadium and Cobalt Carbon
What is the composition of Stainless Steel
Its composition is Low Carbon 0.03-0.08% and Chromium 10.5-26%
Whats the composition of Brass
Its composition is Copper-65% and Zinc-35%
What are Non-Ferrous metals
They are a group of pure metals that don’t contain iron in them
