compound sentence
a sentence that has two or more ICs eg. we went to the park but the weather was terrible
compound-complex sentences
a sentence with two or more ICs and a SC eg. we spoke and they listened, although it wont make much difference
declarative
a sentence type that expresses and statement EG, it might snow tonight.
imperative sentence
a sentence type that expresses a directive or command. They are are second person and usually start with a verb
interrogative sentence
a sentence type that expresses a question, usually a the subject and verb are inverted Eg. when are you going to Malborne?
interrogative tag
incomplete clause that includes inversion added to the end of a declarative. Eg, you love English language, don’t you?
Passive
a grammatical construction in which the subject of the clause is not carrying out the action of the verb but is having it done to them. inversion of the subject and object. eg, X was done BY…., perents were informed by the school
sentence
a grammatical structure made up of one or more clauses Eg. the sun is shinning. We love the beach an the snow
syntax
the study of the grammatical relationships between words in a sentence
