Metal lathe Flashcards
1
Q
Facing
A
Cutting across the job, at right angles to
the bed of the lathe. This will remove
any saw marks.
2
Q
Drilling
A
Using standard twist drills, parallel to the
bed of the lathe on a previously faced
surface. Should be prepared using a
slocomb drill.
3
Q
Knurlling
A
Cutting a rough surface onto the job. Tool has two cutting wheels. Must be done at a very slow machine speed while moving parallel to the bed. Automatic feed must also be slow.
4
Q
Parallel Turning
A
Cutting along the length of the job,
parallel to the lathe bed. This will make
the metal thinner.
5
Q
Parting off
A
Cutting a completed job from a larger
bar of metal. Must be done at a much
slower machine speed.
6
Q
Taper turning
A
Cutting at a different angle from the
lathe bed. Used to make sloped
surfaces.
