What are metal fasteners?
They are made up of metal and can be used to join materials.
Types of metal fasteners:
Welding
Soldering
Nails
Screws
Nuts and bolts
Rivets

What are nails?
Thay are the metal devices used to join two pieces of wood together.
What are some different types of nails?
Round wire nails
Oval wire nails
Panel pins
Lost head nails
Tacks
What are round wire nails?
They are called french nails
They are used for general work
What are oval wire nails?
They hold things less securely than the round nails but will not split wood.
What are panel pins?
Available in only small pieces.
Used for light work.
Used for fixing plywood to hardwood.
What are lost head nails?
It is the longer version of panel pins.
It is used when the nail is to be punched below the surface of the wood.
What are tacks?
Used mainly for canvas, carpets or upholstery.
What are screws?
They are made of metals.
They are made of steel or brass.
They compress the fibres of the wood, making the joints stronger.
What are the uses of screw?
-To join parts of a wood structure.
-To attack
What are rivets?
A rivet is a permanent mechanical fastener that is used for joining metal sheets or thin materials.
What are nuts and bolts?
The bolt consists of a head cylindrical body with screw threads along a portion of its length. The nut is the female member of the pair.
