Metabolism: Anabolism Flashcards
What do bacteria use the Calvin cycle for?
Used to obtain energy and necessary components for growth and development.
What happens in Gluconeogenesis?
Is a process that transform non-carbohydrate substrates into glucose, such as pyruvate, lactic acid, glycerol, and amino acids.
Briefly describe the working of the flagellar motor.
Harnesses ion flow to drive rotary motion.
Name one intermediate of the Kreb’s cycle that is used in amino acid synthesis of glutamate.
alpha-ketoglutaric acid.
Prototrophs
Are organism that ate capable of producing all organic compounds needed for their own growth.
Auxotrophs
Are organisms that are unable to produce an essential organic compound due to genetic mutation.
Prototrophs and auxotrophs need C, energy, and minerals for growth. True or False and which can make its own nutrients?
True they both need the nutrients to grow but prototrophs can produce the nutrients needed to grow, while auxotrophs can’t.
List the 2 parts of the flagellar motor.
Rotor and stator (MotA and MotB)
Flagellar motility is driven by the proton motive force: Ture or False
True
NAD and NADP
NAD is used for energy generation and present in catabolic reactions.
NADP is used for biosynthesis and present in anabolic reactions.
Anabolism
Anabolism is the biosynthesis of complex molecules from low molecular weight (simple compounds) precursors involving reductive reactions. Anabolic pathways require input of high energy.
(Involve creation of bonds)
