The Sumerians were the first civilization in the Fertile Crescent. Sargon of Akkad conquered all of Mesopotamia. Sumer was overrun by invaders and their region slit into small kingdoms. The Babylonians inherited the culture of the Sumerians. With Hammurabi as their leader, they instituted the Code of Hammurabi. The Assyrians became very powerful using many different things to take over the Babylonians.
