The northern part was hilly and received rain

The southern part had plains and flat land where it was really hot and there was little to no rain

They were having food shortages in the zagros foothills, so they moved to Sumer

In Sumer there was a uncontrollable water supply so they solved it by creating and irrigation system

They struggled with maintaining a complex irrigation system so they had all the villages work together to maintain it

There was violence over the water supply so the villages build walls around their cities.
