Mesopotamia
The land in between the two rivers
What was the first problem that the Mesopotamians faced, and what was their solution?
PROBLEM-Farmers in the Zagros mountains did not have enough land to feed the growing population
SOLUTION-people moved out of the foothills and onto the plains of the Euphrates and Tigris river. This land was less- suited for farming, but people were able to build cities in this location.
What was the second problem that the Mesopotamians faced, and what was their solution?
PROBLEM- uncontrollable water sources- the farmers who had moved to the Sumer didn’t know when it would rain, and lots of the season was dry. SOLUTION-they created levees to control their water scource and maintain availability of water.
What was the third problem that the Mesopotamians faced, and what was their solution?
PROBLEM-their water systems became clogged with silt, cutting water off in other villages affecting multiple villages at once. SOLUTION-villages came together to keep water flowing, and supply healthy.
Villages-Towns-Cities
What was the fourth problem that the Mesopotamians faced, and what was their solution?
PROBLEM- cities would fight over water supply, often leading to bloodshed. Fighting over shared water scource
SOLUTION- cities built walls around themselves, for protection-CITY STATES
THINK- what factors caused Mesopotamia to form into city states???????????????????
-think about the p+s’s
