- supplied by VPS/Pharm, written only if prescriber and supplier not the same.

Non-Food Animals eg. fur animals, rodents
- supplied by VPS/Pharm (Veterinarian, Pharmacist, Suitably Qualified Person),
- written Rx not required

What is SAES?
Unlicensed Vet medicine
- no marketing authorisation required, meets criteria in veterinary medicines regulations.

What is Unauthorised veterinary medicine?
Unlicensed med that does not have a marketing authorisation. Not SAES. Under cascade.
Prescription requirements for POM-V + VPS and supplied under the cascade?
1) Name, Address, Telephone of prescriber
2) Qualification and signature of vet (reg no if Schedule CD 2,3)
3) Name and address of owner
4) Identification and species of animal + address
5) Date-same as FP10
6) Name, quantity, dose, administration - as directed not appropriate
7) Necessary warnings
8) States prescribed under the veterinary cascade
9) If schedule 2/3 item has been prescribed for an animal or herd under care of vet
10) If applicable - no. of times repeatable

What is the veterinary cascade?
A legislative provision in VMR that allows vet surgeon to prescribe unauthorised meds that would not otherwise be permitted.
Vet Cascade exemption?
- supply of med not licensed for animals
- first supply licensed animal meds
- then unlicensed
- med prescribed under cascade - responsibility of prescribing vet.
Sale of unauthorised vet meds
- unlawful to supply meds eg GSL and P for animals
- unless this is under cascade
- even if vet says go pharmacy and buy it - we can’t
Record for POM-V + VPS?
- Record to be kept electronically/written and for 5 years
- Keep copy of Rx
