No. Although Sch 4 or 5 CDs and phenobarbital can be written as an emergency supply, and Dentists (Doctors, dentists, nurse, Pharmacist, supplementary prescriber) can write an emergency CD, only UK prescribers can do it. Swiss, EEA can write emergency supply but NOT for CDs.
What information needs to be written on the POM register for an emergency supply requested by a podiatrist independent prescriber?

Yes. A previous prescribing Hx from a UK, EEA, Swiss prescriber is needed for any emergency supply that is requested by the PATIENT. A prescriber does not need to request on that is on history.
Mr Ali requests an emergency supply of his blood pressure medication. The previous record shows that he was last prescribed 2 years ago. How recent does the medical record needs to be if a patient requests an emergency supply?
There is no limit on the gap from it was last prescribed. There is also no written statement that it needs to be on record. It is up to the pharmacist’s judgement.

Can an podiatrist write a signed patient order for:
lignocaine injection?
hydrocortisone cream?
frusemide?
podiatrist/optometrist written signed patient orders are not prescriptions. They are a list of POM medicines. No rx req. need label and POM register, keep 2 years.
lignocaine injection? No. They can maybe administer it, but not for the patient to pick it up as as a signed order.
hydrocortisone 1% cream? Yes. POM. podiatrist cannot sell but they can write signed order for patient to pick up from pharmacy.
frusemide? no. not on list for selling nor administration
Podiatrist request Diazepam on emergency supply. what is your response?
CD usually cannot be prescribed even by an IP podiatrist, but there are exceptions. Diazepam can be prescribed by IP podiatrists.
IP podiatrists prescriptions: NO CD, except, diazepam, lorazapam, temazepam, dihydrocodeine.
HOWEVER. Emergency supply: only dr, nurse, pharmacists, dentists and supplementary prescribers.
So. NO.
Podiatrist wrote 32x co-codamol 30/500 tablets 2t qid for signed order. Patient gives it to you. Will you supply it?
No.
Co-codamol is a POM. Though it is on the signed order list, anything with codeine or hihydrocodeine has a maximum of 3 days supply to a patient. signed order can only give 24 tablets maximum.
What type of podiatrist can write a signed order for hydrocortisone 1% cream?
Any? SP? IP?
ANY can write a signed order from the limited POM list
SP and IP can actually write prescriptions from anything within their scope.
does a optometrist or podiatrist signed order need to be written in POM register since it’s not a prescription with prescription requirements?

- only by prescriber request, not patient request
- prescriber needs to be a PPP specialist
- negative pregnancy test confirmed within preceding 7 days.
