Bipolar-manic depression. Low depression, high manic episode. 4cyles in a year is “rapid cycling”
Major depression-affects daily functions, one of the most caused disability. 5% have it.

Social-difficulties maintaining necessities of life

Use simple language
Avoid questions that tell a person the answer u expect
If giving Miranda, speak slowly, make sure they understand and give praise

When they are a harm to them selfs or another and use minimal force necessary, wait until conscious
How and why should you document an encounter with a person with mh disability?
It creates a history of the b/o
It gives other officers/medical personnel and supervisors information
It’s recommended to document everything to establish rapport in future crisis incidents
And documents when someone is a unreliable source
When is an interpreter needed for an officer?
Usually for urgent situations or violent crimes
Not required for simple transactions or violations

What are ways to control a subject who presents with excited delirium?
Call ems ahead of time Train dispatchers to know the signs Focus on contacting the subject Ask for backup if it's excited delirium Prone position might work best, but make it difficult for subject to breathe
What are some tactics when dealing with an suicidal subject?
Identify the subject and risk they present to them selfs or others
Take seriously
Use caution, may want suicide by cop
Work with others, family, MH workers
What are some crisis intervention tactics? (CIT) crisis intervention team
Gather as much info as possible before u arrive

Assess and stabilize the scene
What are the steps in the crisis circle?
1) normal stage: 100% perception, ability to reason
2) stimulation stage: subject only has 50-75% reasoning, agitated b/o
3) escalation stage-loud agrees dive b/o 5-24% reasoning
4) crisis stage- only 0-5% reasoning and ability to control
5) de-escalation-subject coming out of crisis
6) stabilization-keep subject calm, try not to escalate the subject
