Circumstantiality
Someone who takes a long time to come to a point
Derailment
Speech where a person shifts from one topic to another, with the second topic being very loosely associated or completely unassociated. Occurs between sentences.
Flight of Ideas
rapid movement of thoughts and speech often with changes in subject. The changes in subject can be based on understandable associations or distractions but don’t create a coherent conversation. Usually more in ppl who are manic.
Neologisms
New words or significantly distorted words that are not recognizable. Common in schizophrenics
Blocking
Lost train of thought. Sudden stop in speech without making a point.
Confabulation
Making up or fabricating facts in response to questioning. usually done to cover up memory deficiencies. common in ones with amnesia
perseveration
persistent repitition of words or ideas
echolalia
act of being a copy cat
clanging
choice of words based on repeated sound
obsessions
repeated thoughts or impulses that a person feels are unacceptable
somatic delusions
believe they have some disease or affliction
