the judgement is so impaired that failing to admit would leas to serious deterioration of the condition or stop the administration of essential treatment
AND
the admission must be likely to benefit or alleviate the condition to an extent
dementia under the MHA must have:
severe psych or behaviour sx + cognitive impairment as per DSM/ICD
to admit LD under the MHA must be:
- significant impairment of intelligence
- significant impairment of social functioning
- abnormally aggressive or seriously irresponsible conduct
