Mental Health: A positive state of well-being involving how we think, feel, and act. It includes emotional resilience, stress management, and life satisfaction.

What Mental illness
· Mental Illness: A diagnosable condition influenced by biological, psychological, and environmental factors. It is not a sign of weakness.
· Mental illness is not rare and can affect anyone.

Risk Factors Include:
· Abuse (physical, emotional, or sexual)
· Neglect (physical or emotional)
· Household challenges (e.g., substance abuse, mental illness, incarceration)

· Increased risk of anxiety, depression, and PTSD.
· Higher likelihood of developing chronic health issues.
· Greater risk of substance abuse and risky behaviours.
What are Trauma-Informed Care Principles
- Safety: Ensuring physical, emotional, and relational safety for service users.
- Trust: Building honesty, respect, and consistency in interactions.
- Choice: Offering treatment options and respecting the right to decline.
- Collaboration: Working with the individual to establish goals.
- Empowerment: Supporting individuals to develop their own coping strategies and manage symptoms.
