Somatic concerns are often a presenting complaint – abdominal pain, HA and vague body aches.

a form of social contagion that involves the spontaneous spread of emotions and related behaviors
Nurses are at risk for
Client and family teaching of depression
They should understand that depression is an illness, not a lack of willpower or motivation.
Interventions for mild anxiety
▪ Focus on the appraisal: how they appraise and prioritize stressors
▪ Evaluate thoughts that may increase anxiety
Interventions for moderate anxiety
Provide information for cognitive reframing: ID and and dispute irrational thoughts, change in thinking
Intervene appropriately to prevent panic
Interventions for severe anxiety, panic
Intervene immediately- later intense stages, view of world is limited.
Isolate client to avoid distressing others
Do not leave them alone
provide safe quiet protective environment
