ADHD
over diagnosed, mostly in boys, medication issues
behaviors of ADHD
blurs out answers, distracted easily, doesnt complete tasks before moving to another, does not sustain attention, does not follow instructions, does not listen to others well, engages in physically dangerous activities, fidgets, finds it hard to play quietly, interrupts others, loses things needed for tasks, talks a lot
ADHD Combined Type
both inattention and hyperactivity-impulsivity symptoms
ADHD, Predominently Inattentive type
Inattention, but not enough ( at least 6 out of 9 for children less than 18 years old) hyperactivity-implusivity symptoms
ADHD, Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type
Hyperactivity-impulsivity,but not enough ( at least 6 out of 9) inattention symptoms
Inattention symptoms of ADHD
not paying attention to detail, making carless, mistakes, failing to pay attention and keep on task, not listening, avoiding tasks that involve effort
hyperactivity-impulsivity symptoms of ADHD
fidgeting, squirming, getting up often when seated, running or climbing at inappropriate times, having trouble playing quietly, talking excessively or out of turn, interrupting
Comorbid with
conduct disorder, anxiety disorder, learning disorders, tourette’s–must have two muscles ticks and one vocal tick to diagnose.
Treatment
Stimulants; Ritalin, Strattera, Concerta
Side Effects of meds:
stomach upset, headaches, growth stops, lack of appetite, anorexia
