Excessive worrying, causing impairment and distress
Subtypes:
- generalised anxiety disorder - excessive and ongoing worrying about events. Difficulty controlling.
- social anxiety - fear of social situations - rejection and evaluation
- phobia - persistent fear of object or situation

A

Consists of obsessions (recurrent distressing thoughts) and compulsions (repetitive behaviours aimed to minimise distress)

A

Cyclical mood disorder
Depressive and then mania (inflated self-esteem, increased risk taking) or hypomania (not as extreme as mania)
Type one - depressive and manic episodes
Type two - depressive and hypomania

Eating disorders

A

Anorexia Nervosa:

  • refusal to maintain ‘normal’ bodyweight - intense fear of gaining weight
  • disordered body perception
  • amenorrhea, low blood pressure, dry skin, cracked nails, heart failure
  • lack insight and deny that behaviour is problematic

Bulimia Nervosa:

  • recurrent binge eating and inappropriate compensatory behaviour
  • disordered body perception
  • dental problems, intestinal disorders, kidney damage
  • have insight and do consider their behaviour as problematic
