If an advance decision exists that records the patient’s wishes not to be resuscitated it must be followed
Only if it is applicable and specific to the circumstances of the collapse
In order to be valid, a Do Not Attempt Resuscitation Order must include the following:
- Be written, placed in the medical record and signed by the medical consultant responsible for the patients care
- Be reviewed if the patient’s condition changes
- A discussion with the patient
- Ideally involve discussion with those close to the patient (family)
