originates laterally near the middle of the horizontal segment, courses over the abducent nerve
supplies the adjacent cavernous sinus dura and cranial nerves, and commonly anastomoses with the maxillary and/or middle meningeal arteries through the artery of the foramen rotundum, the artery of the foramen ovale, and/or the foramen spinosum.
